Wishing you a happy and hopeful Black August!
Happy to remember and honor the history of the countless struggles toward Black liberation; hopeful that we continue to move in this direction, with each breath.
VOLAR is doing its part by living into our mission of acquiring and stewarding land differently: centering collective Black ownership and decision making. We continue with the renovation of 1031 E. Monument into 7 units of affordable cooperative housing. We began design of 1025 E. Monument, soon to be the Community Hub. We just hired a full time community organizer to continue to grow a base of community leaders and investors/co-owners of our Community Hub. Yesterday we learned that we were granted $150,000 from Baltimore City’s Catalyst Fund for development of the Community Hub! We are grateful and encouraged.
Today we invite you to match this $150,000 grant with another $150,000. Together these funds will help pay for the cost of the elevator system connecting the two buildings.
We will construct this elevator to assure people with all abilities are able to access the Cooperative Housing and the Community Hub.

These are challenging times when we might lose sight of the ways we can continue to build beloved community together. Together we can resist, with love, the negativity and separation and bring forward the joy and inspiration to dream and make our dreams a reality.
